The founder and current Executive & Artistic Director of The Mistake Room (TMR), Los Angeles. Prior to founding TMR he served as Associate Director and Senior Curator of LAXART (2007-2012). In 2012, he was one of the curators of Made in L.A. 2012 — the first Los Angeles Biennial organized by the Hammer Museum. From 2012-2013 he served as U.S. Commissioner for the 13th International Cairo Biennial in Egypt. At TMR Garcia has organized new commissions and solo projects with Ed Clark, Henry Taylor, Vivian Suter, Thomas Hirschhorn, Christopher Myers, Tuan Andrew Nguyen, Diana Thater, Oscar Murillo, Korakrit Arunanondchai and others. García-Alvarez has also organized a host of exhibitions nationally and internationally, most notably the US institutional debut of Wael Shawky’s Cabaret Crusades at the Hammer Museum (2013), the retrospective of Tijuana artist Marcos Ramirez ERRE at the Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil in Mexico City (2011, with Kevin Power), and the mid-career survey of Eduardo Sarabia at the Centro Cultural Cabañas in Guadalajara, Mexico (2014). He has held various teaching appointments and publishes frequently. He currently lives and works between Los Angeles, CA and Guadalajara, Mexico.
Deputy Director & Head of Program for The Mistake Room in Los Angeles, where she has organized solo exhibitions and projects with Cao Fei, Matsumi Kanemitsu, Susu Attar, Carlos Amorales, and Gaëlle Choisne, among other programs. As an independent curator, she has organized exhibitions at spaces such as LAXART, Los Angeles; Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena, California; Instituto Cervantes, Madrid; Paramo, Guadalajara; and the Japanese American National Museum, Los Angeles in addition to managing private art collections. Most recently, she launched the Candlewood Arts Festival—a temporary public art exhibition project for the Under the Sun Foundation in the Anza Borrego Desert. Her previous posts include Associate Director for Artis; Programs Director at Creative Link for the Arts, New York; Curator for the collections of Eileen and Peter Norton and the Collection of Eileen Harris Norton; and the Arts Programs Director for the Peter Norton Family Foundation. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
Nicolas Orozco-Valdivia
Anna Borisova
Associate Curator at The Mistake Room, Los Angeles, where he co-curated My Veins Do Not End In Me, in 2018. He has also assisted on various exhibitions and projects with artists Eduardo Sarabia, Tuan Andrew Nguyen, Sky Hopinka, the Karrabing Film Collective, Susu Attar, Brian Rochefort, and Christopher Myers. Orozco-Valdivia also co-organized Lived Worlds, the special section of the 2018 Art021 Art Fair in Shanghai. In 2019, he was the Emerging Curator at LACE, where he organized Take My Money; Take My Body, an exhibition at the intersection of pop-culture and politics. In 2017, he curated Labor and Photography at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). He is currently working on a large group exhibition, slated for 2020, that explores the legacies of the Pictures Generation amongst an international group of emerging photographers and image-makers. Prior to joining The Mistake Room, he was an Andrew W. Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellow in the Departments of Chinese and Korean Art and Photography at LACMA.
is an art advisor specializing in Chinese Contemporary art. Born in Russia, Borisova spent a decade living in China prior to relocating to Los Angeles where she currently resides. She has a background in Art History, and completed her studies in Economics and International Trade and Art Business at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art. With over 8 years of experience in the international market, Borisova has built art collections for prominent private and corporate clients. She serves as an art advisor and consultant for a variety of international art galleries, artists, and institutions, helping to grow their presence in and out of the Asia market. Borisova helped organize a number of exhibitions at notable galleries, art institutions, and biennials such as Long March Space, Beijing; White Cube, London and Hong Kong; Almine Rech, Paris; Lehmann Maupin, New York; Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Long Museum, Shanghai; and Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing amongst others. In addition to advising, Anna has been working with several foundations and philanthropists to build thoughtful cross-cultural programs through research, residencies, and a wide-range of educational initiatives.
